Tradition
Since at least as far back as the Heian Period in the 1100s, the area that is now Tokoname city has been renowned for ceramics. Being the historic location of one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kiln Sites, this deep tradition is carried on to this day as the city is still well known for the quality and aesthetics of its potters’ Tokoname-yaki (Tokoname ware).
Design
These one-of-a-kind jars with matching lids are an original Meirō Candle Co. design, expertly crafted in Tokoname with unique features that accentuate the natural character and utility of stoneware. The lids fit perfectly under the base to save space and add extra heat protection like a custom fit coaster for the jar. To extinguish the candle, simply return the lid to the top of the jar to snuff the flame and keep the smoke discreetly contained inside.
